Smith Wins Indiana Director of Year, Carlson Administrator of Year Finalist
Columbus Express Soccer Club (CESC) Director of Coaching Ty Smith has been awarded the honor of 2019 “Director of Coaching of the Year” at the Indiana Soccer Awards Gala last weekend. Jenny Carlson was also nominated as “Administrator of the Year”.
The Indiana Soccer Awards Gala is an annual celebration of the accomplishments by players, coaches, administrators and teams during the 2018-19 season throughout the state of Indiana. These prestigious awards are highly competitive, and the club is delighted with the recognition of the good work that Ty and Jenny perform for both the club and the community at large.
Ty Smith joined CESC as Director of Coaching in 2017, and he played briefly with Columbus Express as a youth player. Jenny Carlson joined CESC in 2001, and she has served in various capacities including board member, team manager, as well as her current role as club Administrator.
CESC president Marc Gotoh said, “We truly appreciate everything Ty and Jenny do for the girls and boys in our club. Ty serves the game of soccer through long hours of preparation for training teams and coordinating game schedules, coaching young coaches to grow in their craft, mentoring talented players to develop through individual and team goals, recording and analyzing game film, enduring all sorts of weather conditions on the sidelines, and engaging positively with parents both on and off the field. Jenny is critical to the success of CESC by helping to keep our club roster up to date, registering players and teams, communicating with team managers, parents and Indiana Soccer, supporting the CESC Finance committee in balancing the books, and helping the board to manage the ‘everyday chaos’ of our teamwork.”
