Columbus Express 2008 Boys Advance to US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup

The Columbus Express Soccer Club 2008 Boys Orange team is headed to the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup after a strong showing at the Midwest Presidents Cup in St. Louis, Missouri. This marks only the second time in club history that a team has advanced to Nationals—and it’s the second trip for this same 2008 Boys group, who also qualified in 2022.

Express opened group play with a 1–0 win over Schuyler FC, powered by a goal from Lane Woodard and a clean sheet from goalkeeper Ryder Meek. The team followed that with two consecutive 0–0 draws against the Michigan Jaguars and Des Moines FC. With zero goals conceded in group play, Express advanced to the knockout rounds on a goals allowed tiebreaker.

In the semifinals, Express secured a 1–0 victory over United City FC with a goal from Marckenson Paul, while Meek recorded his fourth shutout of the tournament.

The team’s tournament run came to an end in the final, falling 3–0 to Sporting Kaw Valley of Kansas. Despite the loss, their performance earned them a berth in the National Presidents Cup, held July 10–15 in Tampa, Florida.

The club and community are rallying behind the team as they prepare for Nationals. Express is currently seeking sponsors and donors to help offset the cost of travel, lodging, and meals.
